Wood Duck
Aix
sponsa
Fairly common and widespread in King County in lowlands and Cascade foothills adjacent to open water with nearby stands of trees; much more local in Kitsap and Island Counties in similar habitats. Local at middle elevations in Kittitas County, mainly in riparian habitat along Yakima River Valley. Requires natural nesting cavities in trees or provided boxes near water, but shuns dense forest.
