Western Meadowlark Sturnella neglecta

Common in grasslands, shrub-steppe, and agricultural areas at low and moderate elevations in Kittitas County. Formerly more common in western Washington lowlands, but prairie habitat now greatly reduced by development and invasive plants. One "probable" record near Black Diamond; other King County BBA records may indicate remnant breeders, but more likely represent migrants or lingering winter residents. Not recorded from Island or Kitsap Counties, where rare even outside breeding season.
