Uncommon and local at low to middle elevations on both sides of Cascades in open-edged freshwater marshes and wet meadows. Occurs in brackish marshes in Island County. Breeding confirmed at one site in Kitsap County after close of BBA period (Nancy Ladenberger, pers. comm.).
