American Dipper Cinclus mexicanus

Uncommon in mid- and high-elevation forests of King and Kittitas Counties, nesting and foraging on mountain rivers and streams. Outlying record from King County coastal lowlands in West Seattle in 1989 probably represents individual remaining on winter range. Absent from Island County (no suitable habitat). No BBA records from Kitsap County, but predicted breeding range mapped across much of county by Washington Gap report (Smith et al. 1997) receives some support from post-atlas record of singing bird along Chico Creek near Silverdale on 15 May 2004 (Nancy Ladenberger, pers. comm.).
